The Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher House of the Charlie Norwood Veteran's Hospital
I was fortunate enough to have completed service work with the Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher House, which is a place that allows the families of wounded war heroes to stay while their loved ones are healing. This began when a World War II veteran was hospitalized during 1990 and his family had to live in a car while he was taken care of. Zachary Fisher, a multimillionaire and contractor, heard about this situation and founded the Fisher House. This is now a place for families to stay if visiting their loved ones are a hardship. There are 64 Fisher houses, including some internationally. There are located at either VA Hospitals or military bases. Here, families can enjoy the luxurious rooms, and every house is designed like a mansion. This is because the Fishers were wealthy, and wanted to invite the military families into their mansion home. For years, it has been a haven for the families of injured military individuals.
