“Many are called, but few are chosen.”
Dear Visitor of this Website,
Welcome to “Military Memoirs and More,” a website dedicated to honoring, assisting, and remembering those who served. Unlike any other military website, this is one that is made from the eyes of a high school student and details the journey I made while spending time with America’s greatest heroes. I am a senior at Strom Thurmond High School, located in Johnston, SC. I am a member of the Thurmond Statesman Institute and must complete a Senior Project for graduation of the program. Ever since I first knew about a Senior Project, I knew that I wanted to make something that would last far beyond graduation. I wanted something that would reach out and grab the hearts of the community. Most of all, I wanted a Senior Project that was meaningful and represented something that was larger than myself. Inspiration became a desire, and after careful consideration, I chose to work with the service men and women of America and create something in their honor. After speaking with my TSI supervisor, Ms. Denise Jackson, and my family, the project was approved and something great and beautiful was conceived. I knew that I wanted to do something, but what exactly would I do? How could I create something that was worthy of honoring the greatest heroes America has ever seen? I knew that I could not just do one thing, so I chose to create a multi-faceted project consisting of four parts. Through individual interviews, community service, research, and extending involvement to others, I learned about a world I did not know existed and realized just how large the sacrifices our military men and women make for us truly are. It began as a simple project and became a learning and growing experience for me as a person and as a leader. My journey is one that I could not have experienced with any other project or from choosing any other group of people. It has been astounding to hear, see, engage, and learn. As I began the project, I knew, without any doubt in my mind, that I had chosen the right assignment for me. It was enjoyable, rewarding, and gave me lifelong lessons and enhanced my respect for the military. It is my sincere wish that this website serves as a tool for other students, veterans, active military men and women, military family and friends, and all others who may be involved. May all who visit explore, research, ask questions, and take the time to learn about all that the military does for America and civilians.
Sincerely,
Antonia Danielle Adams
